Exploratory tubes are thin, delicate structures made from termite feces, saliva, and dirt, stretching over 15 feet across surfaces like concrete. They serve as pathways for termites seeking new food sources and often go unnoticed, as they are abandoned when termites move to richer feeding grounds in a home.

Working Tubes

Working tubes are the termite colony’s highways, robust and frequently trafficked as termites shuttle between their nest and food. These tubes, ranging from 1/4 to 1 inch in diameter, are sturdier and more organized than exploratory tubes, connecting termites to food sources near foundations and basement walls.

Swarm Castle / Swarm Tubes

Swarm castles, large mud and saliva structures up to four feet wide, house swarming termites temporarily as they prepare to leave and establish new colonies. Workers clear exit paths for swarmers, who then take flight from these protective castles.

Drop Tubes

Resembling cave stalactites, drop tubes hang from structures, providing access to food sources and connecting to the ground and other termite tubes. Lighter in color due to more wood fiber, they share the diameter and brittleness of other tubes but contain less clay.
