Roaches in Your Car: 5 Ways to Get Rid of Them

Roaches in Your Car: 4 Ways to Get Rid of Them

Cockroaches will infest a place to get basic needs such as warmth, shelter, and food. So, if you eat in your car, cockroaches will likely be attracted to it because they can find food crumbs and spills.

Notably, cockroaches are not just creepy; they are also dangerous. These pests can pose serious health risks to humans by spreading diseases such as salmonella, dysentery, and gastroenteritis. Therefore, taking immediate action is crucial if you suspect a cockroach infestation in your car.

In this post, we will discuss how to get rid of car cockroaches.

4 Ways to Get Rid of Cockroaches from Your Car

First, to understand how to get rid of cockroaches effectively, you must know where they will likely hide within your car.

Some of the places you will find cockroaches moving in your car or hiding include:

  • On the seat cushions
  • Inside the ventilation systems
  • Underneath the floor mats.
  • The interior side of the doors

Importantly, it’s crucial to understand that cockroaches can multiply rapidly and cause significant damage if left unchecked. Therefore, by detecting and eliminating them when their numbers are still low, you can take control of the situation and prevent the infestation from getting out of hand.

But how can you tell if your car is infested with cockroaches? Here are some clear signs to look out for:

  • Unpleasant smell.  If you begin noticing a strange, unpleasant smell that was not there before, it’s likely due to pest infestation.
  • Cockroaches droppings. Finding small droppings in your car could be a sign there are roaches in your car.
  • Allergic symptoms.  If suddenly you begin experiencing allergic reactions such as sneezing or itchy eyes when you get into your car, it could be a sign that there are cockroaches that are triggering that.
  • Roaches eggs. If you find oval-shaped eggs along the hidden areas of your car, it is a sign that there may be cockroaches that are breeding inside your vehicle.
  • Sight of cockroaches. Sometimes, you will see one or two cockroaches creeping around your car. This is the early sign that you must take action before the roach’s infestation gets out of hand.

So, when you find clear evidence of cockroach infestation in your car and are still doubting, you should take action to eradicate them as soon as possible.

Importantly, you should apply the following proper cockroaches eradication techniques.

1. Thoroughly clean your car

Remember, it’s primarily food crumbs that attract cockroaches into your car. Therefore, the first and most effective step to eliminate cockroaches from your vehicle is thorough cleaning, ensuring all trash is removed. When done right, this process can significantly reduce the chances of re-infestation.

Remove all unnecessary items and clutter from your car to start the cleaning process. This will make it easier to access all areas for thorough cleaning. Then, pay special attention to areas where food crumbs and spills are likely to accumulate, such as the seats, floor mats, and door pockets. Use the proper cleaning tools to access difficult areas, such as the tight spaces between the seat cushions.

Importantly, during the cleaning, ensure you wear gloves and a mask so that you don’t inhale allergens which could cause respiratory problems such as sneezing.

2. Apply Boric Acid

Boric acid is a commonly used and effective cockroach control method. This substance kills cockroaches by disrupting their digestion system and dehydrating their exoskeletons.

Please note that boric acid can be harmful if ingested or inhaled, so it’s important to handle it with care. Mainly, apply boric acid using an applicator to avoid direct contact with your skin or eyes.

3. Use Baits

You can place food laced with insecticide to attract the cockroaches. When the cockroaches eat the food laced with a slow-acting insecticide, they return to their hiding places, but eventually die gradually within a few days. This method is effective as it not only kills the visible cockroaches but also those hiding in inaccessible areas.

To ensure effectiveness, place the baits where you suspect the cockroaches frequently search for food, especially in areas near seats. Also, ensure the areas are accessible for thorough cleaning after eradicating the cockroaches.

4. Spray the proper insecticides

There are various types of insecticides available for cockroach control, including sprays. Some of these products provide a long-term pest prevention solution. After spraying the insecticide to kill the roaches, the pests likely won’t reinfest into your car soon.

It’s important to note that while some insecticides may not be 100% safe for use, they are designed to be used in controlled environments. By following the manufacturer’s instructions and using the products cautiously, you can ensure your safety while effectively eliminating the pests. However, it’s always a good idea to consult a professional or read the product label for specific safety instructions before using any insecticide.
